The Starter Series

Kinder-friendly science, built for small hands

The Starter Series rebuilds the projects younger classes cannot yet run on their own. Shorter builds, picture-led instructions, and results that arrive inside one lesson rather than one afternoon.

Three specially curated boxes make up the series, nine projects in total, with all supplies pre-portioned per student. No sorting, no distributing, no prep.

Why the Starter Series

Built for how 5 and 6-year-olds actually work

  • A smiling boy holding up the fossil casting he made

    Independent success

They want their child to feel like they did it, even if an adult helps.

    • Sensory Exploration
    • Observation
    • Sorting/Classifying
    • Patterns
    • Cause/Effect
  • Glowing handprints on glow paper under a violet light

    Fast wins

Most 5 and 6-year-olds cannot stay focused for 30 to 60 minutes per build. They need:

    • 10 to 20 minute builds
    • Immediate results
    • Minimal precision
  • A small child stirring a mixing cup at a kitchen counter

    Low reading demand

    • Mostly picture-based instructions
    • Short steps
    • Easy to grasp science concepts
  • A boy painting with a row of small paint pots on a kitchen counter

    Frustration-free

Let them explore chemistry, physics, and more in their own age-appropriate ways.

STEM Starter Series

3 specially curated boxes to choose from!

  • A boy pointing at a rack of test tubes filled with coloured liquid on a kitchen counter
  • Two young children in tie-dye shirts on a porch with trays of a science project between them
  • A girl holding the yellow bouncy ball she made over a plate of leftover crystals
  • Two small children using pipettes over trays of blue liquid at a table
K-2 Starter Box Series 1: a prehistoric crystal garden, glowing bouncy balls and a straw engineering structure

What's included

Starter Box, Series 1

  • Grow Prehistoric Crystal Garden

Capillary action, evaporation and crystallization bring your prehistoric setting to life. Grow a one-of-a-kind crystal garden right before your eyes.

  • Create Glowing Bouncy Balls

Explore chemistry and physics while getting creative with color. Make one-of-a-kind bouncy balls while learning about luminescence, elasticity, phosphor, potential energy and kinetic energy.

  • Engineer Geometric Structures

Design and build an infinite number of geometric structures. Test your engineering abilities and challenge others. Think outside the box and let your imagination soar.

K-2 Starter Box Series 2: sensory magic sand, a fossil casting and a foaming fountain

Starter Box, Series 2

  • Explore Sensory Magic Sand

Dive into the science of hydrophobics while being mesmerized by its water-repelling power. Can you put sand in water and have it come out dry?

  • Pour your own Fossil Casting

Study the science of paleontology and fossilization by creating your very own fossil castings.

  • Mix up a Foaming Fountain

Make a catalyst and create a spewing, frothy foaming fountain while experimenting with the science of exothermic reactions.

K-2 Starter Box Series 3: fizzing color chemistry, glow art with a spinning top, and bubbles inside bubbles

Starter Box, Series 3

  • Erupt Fizzing Color Chemistry

Become a chemist as you experiment with acids and bases. Learn about indicators, pH levels and carbon dioxide while exploring colorful, fizzing chemical concoctions.

  • Disappearing Glow Art

Create art while learning about Albert Einstein's photoelectric effect. Draw pictures, write secret disappearing messages, and decorate a glowing top, all with the power of light.

  • Create Bubble Sculptures

What's cooler than bubbles? How about bubbles inside bubbles, inside bubbles. Using the science of surface tension, you can create challenging one-of-a-kind bubble sculptures.

Which box will I get?

The series cycles 1 to 2 to 3 and repeats, so your first box will be whichever box is currently shipping. Your first box may be Box 1, 2 or 3 depending on when in the cycle you order.

  • Almost better than Disney

Got this for my grandson and he said the only thing better would be Disney. He's made VR goggles, a hydraulic claw, and more. Creative, exciting, and absolutely worth the money.

  • Perfect gift for curious kids

My daughter built glowing bouncy balls and a VR viewer, all by herself. Easy-to-follow instructions explain the science behind the fun. We can't wait for next month.
